This summer has created a lot of attention towards bike riders and what towns are doing to help prevent cyclists from getting into accidents. Iowa City is one city in Iowa that has taken the step to give bike riders their own lane on the road. Des Moines is going to do the same thing on Ingersoll if it gets passed within the next week or so. Many people seem to be fed up with cyclist riding on the road, there is now a petition circulating to ban bike riders from cycling on county and rural road. This would prevent any person living in the country to ride their bike to town whether it be for exercise or to run an errand. Cyclist need to be aware that their rights may be changing in the near future. If you are a frequent rider it might be helpful for you to check out any trails or paths your community for you to ride on. Also, obeying the traffic rules just as if you were driving a car may help create a friendlier environment between drivers and cyclist.
