Complete and Incomplete Spinal Cord Injuries

There are 2 classifications of spinal cord injuries; complete spinal cord injuries and incomplete spinal cord injuries. They are differentiated based on the effect a spinal cord injury has on the victim.

Incomplete spinal cord injuries:
victims may be able to feel sensation below the point of the injury, as well as perform some of their voluntary physical functions.

Complete spinal cord injuries:
victims will have no voluntary physical function below the point of injury, and they cannot feel anything below the point of injury.

Fortunately, modern medical advancements, including rehabilitation and therapy, have made it possible to reduce the number of complete spinal cord injuries. In fact, some medical drugs may help restore some of the victim's physical abilities.

Spinal cord injuries can be devastating to victims and their families. Essentially, a spinal cord injury may result in complete physical paralysis below the point of the injury, functional impairment, and/or complications inside the body. Adjusting to life after a spinal cord injury can be difficult and expensive.

If you or someone you love has suffered a spinal cord injury, and the injury was due to someone else's negligence, you may be eligible for compensation through an Iowa personal injury claim. Damages that may be recovered include your immediate and future medical expenses, lost wages, and any pain and suffering.
