Recent studies show that younger people are twice as likely to get hurt or suffer some type of injury on the job that requires a trip to the emergency room than older workers. The higher injury rate among younger Americans, ages 15-24 might be caused from having lack of experience, limited or no training, and not enough supervision. Research shows that the highest nonfatal injury rates are occurring by workers ages 18-19. Prior to working at a job that requires a lot of physical demand or working around/with heavy machinery you need to make sure that the employer will provide proper training to you before you start. It would not be a good idea to work for someone who expects you to learn it on your own; someone like this might not value safety which should always be a major concern when working at a physical job.
On the other hand, younger workers are less likely to speak up to their employers regarding the safety of their job and they might also be less likely to recognize hazards. However, it is still up to the employer to keep their employees safe on the job. Not having some sort of training or safety program put into place could cause injury to employees and may even violate state employment laws.
