On February 10, 2010, Newton Iowa Injury attorney Corey J. L. Walker of Walker, Billingsley & Bair was elected by his fellow Iowa attorneys to serve as one of the District 5A Judicial Nominating Commissioners. The Judicial Nominating Commission interviews and then selects proposed district court judges. The nominations then go to the governor for the final decision.
Corey grew up in Newton and played on the 1988 state runner-up football team. Since graduating from Drake Law School in 1997, he has practiced law in Newton where he lives with his wife and 2 children. In 2001, Corey opened an additional office in Des Moines where he spends a few days each week with his law partner Erik Bair and Des Moines injury paralegal Kristin Brown. When asked about the election results Corey was pleased and indicated that "this is a great opportunity for me to help select the next 4 or 5 judges for our district as we have several judges retiring in the next 6 years. I look forward to meeting a lot of qualified candidates and sending the best of the best onto the Governor." Corey will serve as a Commissioner until his term expires on January 31, 2016.
