During Labor Day weekend there is generally a lot of traffic, because for most people it’s the last big weekend getaway for the summer before fall comes and there probably fun events going on in your town or surrounding area. With everyone trying to get here and there for the weekend, the interstates and highways will be busier which means as a driver you need to be more alert and cautious than usual. There will also be more motorcycles and other two-wheel vehicles on the road due to certain events going on this weekend, drivers need to be on the lookout for all the motorcyclists, not just other drivers.
There is a good possibility that some of the drivers on the road may be drunk or have been drinking, because it is a holiday weekend and people like to unwind with a couple cocktails. Please do not be one of these drivers, if you chose to drink you should designate someone to drive you home or to your destination. Law enforcement may be out more this weekend, because of the holiday and all the travelers. If you are out on the road you do need to be on the lookout for careless drivers or those who have been drinking. Last year over Labor Day weekend there were 8 fatal accidents in Iowa alone, three of the 8 accidents involved alcohol. Therefore, you can count on seeing more officers patrolling Iowa’s roadways this weekend.
