Motorcycle Safety Tips for All Riders

Riding a motorcycle is not as easy or simple as it might look. Many of the motorcyclists (92%) that are involved in accidents tend to have either taught themselves how to ride a motorcycle or learned from a family member or friend. One of the best things you can do as a motorcycle rider is to take classes and keep your training up to date. Motorcycle riding is a hobby that takes practice and knowledge in operating a motorcycle. It is important that you keep your concentration from the time you start riding until you are finished. Concentration and mindset are the most important factors while driving a motorcycle. You cannot just jump on a bike and as a first time rider expect to know what you are doing.

There are many factors that may affect riding such as weather conditions. Traction is very important to motorcycle riders, when the weather changes traction is greatly affected by it which makes it tougher for the driver to operate their bike. Rain can cause a couple challenges and is one of the worse weather conditions for motorcycle riders, because it affects traction and visibility. Drivers already have enough trouble spotting motorcycles on the road, when the weather is bad visibility for everyone on the road tends to get worse which may lead to an accident.

Another factor in protecting yourself from getting into an accident is how you drive your bike. Things you need to be aware of and take extra caution with are:
• Breaking
• Cornering
• Steering at slow speeds

All three of these can turn into deadly mistakes if you don’t know how to properly perform each one while operating your bike. A common error in breaking is to over break which can cause your bike to slide or for you to fall off your bike completely. Remember that the faster you are going, the more distance you will need to stop. For example, if you are going 30 mph and it may take 33 ft to stop, but increasing your speed to 60 mph does not mean you’ll be able to stop in 66 ft; it will actually take you 134 feet or more to stop at that speed. You need to give yourself enough time and distance to stop when traveling at high speeds.

Most accidents that don’t involve another bike or car are usually a result of poor cornering. Cornering can be tricky because you have to turn at the right speed. If you turn too sharp or go to fast around a corner you might lose control of your bike and crash. The most effective way to make sure you are a great motorcycle driver is to refresh your skills by taking classes regularly so you know all the rules and regulations of the road. Taking classes is also one of the most important things you can do to prevent being in a motorcycle accident.
