5 Questions to Ask the Insurance Adjustor After an Accident and Before Giving a Statement
If you have been in a car accident, you are probably wondering what happens next with the insurance company. Are they there to help or are they looking for ways to avoid paying? You may be contacted by your own insurance company as well as by the other driver's company. The insurance company will have questions, but you should ask a few questions too.
5 Questions to Ask Before Giving the Insurance Company Information
What is the benefit of me giving you a recorded statement (almost never recommend)? If I allow you to have a recorded statement, may I take a recorded statement from the other party?
Will your company agree that I am not at fault and if so, put it in writing?
Are you going to take statements from witnesses? Who are they and can I have copies of the statements?
What are the policy limits on the policy and can I please have written documentation of those limits?
If I agree to sign the medical release (generally not recommended) will you put in writing that you will send me a copy of every record they get with the release and only obtain records related to this wreck?
Most insurance companies want information from you, but are unwilling to give you the same. Don't be intimidated and give them knowledge that isn't going to be given in return. Demand that you receive their information before you agree to giving them any of the information they are requesting.
