A warehouse worker from Cedar Rapids sustained a knee injury at work which required surgery.  The knee injury caused him to walk differently which led to him having problems with his back.  Despite having worked for the company for more than 30 years, the insurance company denied that his back condition was related to his work injury and made a small offer prior to trial.  We took the case to trial where our client was found to be permanently and totally disabled due to his work injuries.  The defendants did not like the outcome so they appealed to the workers' compensation commissioner who affirmed the decision and then appealed to district court.  After many attempts by the insurance company to avoid paying the decision, in the end, the district court agreed and ordered permanent total disability to be paid which will result in an expected payout of more than $600,000 over his lifetime.
