An Iowan who worked as a working construction foreman sustained neck injuries with a company where he had worked for more than 30 years.  He required a cervical fusion surgery and had ongoing problems with the use of his hands.  He went back to his employer after his surgery and was told they could no longer use him because of his injuries.  To add insult to injury their workers’ compensation insurance company denied that his problems were caused by his work.  They tried to blame it on his hobbies and the fact that he was a smoker.  He was basically thrown in the trash like a broken tool.  He contacted our office and we took on the insurance company.  The case went to trial and we won on all fronts including that he was found to be permanently and totally disabled which means he is to receive a weekly check for the rest of his life.  The insurance company appealed the decision and the case was affirmed on appeal.  After a few years of fighting, the insurance company eventually gave in and paid a lump-sum of $900,000 to settle his case instead of paying him for the rest of his life.
