Nicole Merrill graduated from Drake Law School in 2008. After law school she practiced at a small firm in Chariton, Iowa, primarily in the areas of juvenile, family, and criminal law, before going to work as an attorney with the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault. As an attorney with Iowa CASA Nicole provided pro bono legal representation to sexual assault survivors and their families, with a focus in the area of family and immigration law. Nicole was hired as a civil rights specialist at the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in 2013. In 2015 Nicole began working as an administrative law judge in the Unemployment Appeals division of Iowa Workforce Development and was promoted to Chief Administrative Law judge in 2019.
Nicole lives in Ankeny with her two children and many pets. She enjoys travel, being outdoors, and cooking.
