A plumber from Newton was working on a ladder in a house when the ladder fell.  He came crashing to the floor seriously injuring his shoulder which required surgery.  He tore his rotator cuff and also damaged his labrum.  His back did not require surgery, but he did have a series of injections for pain management.  Unfortunately, he did not make a full recovery and ended up with permanent restrictions only allowing him to lift up to 25 pounds.  He could not return to his work as a plumber and had to file for Social Security disability as he was 60 years old.  In addition to obtaining Social Security disability, he secured a lump-sum settlement of $285,000.  While he can no longer work in the construction field, he now has financial security.
