A nurse who worked at a state hospital was brutally attacked by a resident which caused her multiple injuries to her head, neck, arms, etc.  Her medical care and treatment. was directed to the University of Iowa where many Iowa state employees are sent.  After numerous doctors' appointments and finally getting to the right doctor, she had surgery on her arm, which helped, and was given additional treatment to deal with her ongoing daily headaches caused by the trauma.  Unfortunately, she did not make a full recovery and the state did not have work for her within her permanent work restrictions.  However, we were able to obtain a settlement for her of $400,000 and she can also draw her full IPERS disability pension as we helped her get Social Security disability as well.  So financially, she received a significant lump-sum and will have an ongoing monthly income for the rest of her life.
