We represented a police officer from eastern Iowa who sustained multiple injuries when he was struck by a fleeing suspect.  His injuries included a badly damaged shoulder which required a shoulder replacement, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), a balance disorder and other medical problems.  He wanted desperately to return to his job as police chief, but his work injuries and the resulting permanent restrictions prevented him from engaging in potential physical altercations with suspects.  As a result, he could not return to law enforcement which is all he had done for 35 years.  We were able to get him a good settlement in the amount of $335,000 plus ongoing medical care for his work injuries.  Also, we were able to obtain Social Security disability for him so that in addition to the lump-sum he also receive about $1,800 per month.
