Even seasoned motorcycle riders can benefit from the programs presented at this year's Iowa Motorcycle Safety Forum. On Friday, April 24, 2015, the Iowa State Fairgrounds' 4-H Exhibit Building will host this day-long event, teaching motorcycle safety skills and techniques, as well as offering entertainment, exhibits, networking and food.
Two Talks You Don't Want to Miss
Two of the talks presented at this event will be sharing important information for safe riding and preparing for group rides. From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Greg Hayes of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and D.L. Petersen of A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education will present "How We Prepare People to Ride for Our Organizations."
The Gold Wing Road Riders Association is a social organization for Honda Gold Wing and Valkyrie motorcycles. Their motto, "Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge" shows their strong commitment to safe riding. The group sponsors several philanthropic projects across the nation, and local chapters can help new riders become familiar with the best areas to ride, as well as rider events and trips.
A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education is a non-profit organization uniting motorcyclists of all kinds to join with the common interest of motorcycle riding. The group was founded to gather motorcycle enthusiasts and promote a safe and fun riding environment, as well as resources for safer motorcycle riding in the Iowa area.
If you frequently take group rides, the 11 a.m.-noon talk is one you don't want to miss. Toby Schuh from Nationwide Insurance and Chris Schweinebart, host of Sydney's Wish Annual Charity Ride will host "Group Riding Preparation: Make it Safe and Have Some Fun!" This talk is sure to impart advice and tricks to making the most out of group rides in a safe and fun manner.
Take Advantage of Vendors and Networking
The 2015 Iowa Motorcycle Safety Forum is a great place to check out some of the latest motorcycle safety gear and technology available in the Des Moines area. This conference is also an excellent opportunity to meet other riders who share your passion. It is highly encouraged that riders network among themselves to share information about the riding conditions in our area to spread information on dangerous roads or intersections, as well as upcoming safety events and charity rides.
There's even something to be learned about safety during the final talk of the night, "One-Wheel Revolution: Preparation for Stunt Riding." Stunt riding requires just as much concern for safety as it does training, and this presentation looks to be educational and entertaining, even if you don't have aspirations of stunt riding in your future.
Make Motorcycle Safety Fun Through Group Learning and Meetings
Learning new information about motorcycle safety is more fun when you do it in a group setting. The Iowa Motorcycle Safety Forum is just one of the many events in the Des Moines area designed to get motorcyclists together in a fun and safe environment.
