When you think of Iowa you probably think about farms, corn, prairie and good people, but there are also several inventors from Iowa. Here are three Iowa Inventors. Do you know what they invented?
1. Otto Frederick Rohwedder a jeweler who was born in Des Moines, but lived in Davenport invented what?
Oto invented the first automatic bread-slicing and wrapping machine which was first used by the Chillicothe Baking Company of Chillicothe, Missouri in 1928 with the first slide bread sold on July 7.
2. John Atanasoff (a professor at Iowa State) and Clifford Berry (his graduate student) invented this device in 1939 which in today’s world we could not live without.
They invented the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) over a period of 3 years starting in 1939 which is widely considered the world's first electronic digital computer.
3. Ben Silbermann grew-up in Des Moines where he attended Des Moines Central Academy and graduated from Des Moines Roosevelt in 1999. He is the co-founder and executive chairman of this visual discovery engine.
Silbermann and co-founder Paul Sciarra created an app called Tote which served as a virtual replacement for paper calendars. They noticed that people were not using the app to shop but were saving images of products which is why in 2010 they launched Pinterest which has made him a billionaire.
