Yes, winter is quickly approaching and soon the roads will be snow and ice covered.  Therefore, we need to remind ourselves, family, and friends of some basic winter driving things.  Here are some tips:

1. Vision- Make sure you can see by checking your wiper blades.  You can use rubbing alcohol on a cloth or paper towel to clean your blades.  If this does not work, then you should replace them because if you cannot see out your windshield then you should not drive.  Also, you should clean the inside of your windshield because if it is dirty it will make difficult driving that much more difficult.

2. Driving style- Make sure to give plenty of distance to the car in front of you as it takes much longer to stop on snow and ice.  Also, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination because speeding will increase your risk of a car crash even more.  There is nothing so important that you need to risk your life by driving too fast for road conditions.

3. Prepare- Sometimes road conditions are such that you cannot prevent sliding into a ditch or otherwise becoming disabled.  If this happens then you need to be prepared with a winter survival kit because it could be many hours before police and rescue personnel can get to you.  Items in a winter emergency kit might include a warm blanket, extra clothes, gloves, a hat, flashlight, tow rope, ice scraper (we hope you requested one last month, if not you still can at www.FreeIceScraper.com or scan the QR code below), water, flares, energy bars, jumper cables and a bag of sand or cat litter for traction.  While having a cell phone with you is a good idea, there are times when emergency providers are so busy that they may not get to you for hours so it is best to prepare on your own.
