An RN (registered nurse) who worked at the Knoxville, Iowa hospital sustained a series of work-related back injuries over a period of a few weeks.  Her back injury became debilitating and she was taken off work.  She saw several different doctors including a surgeon, pain management doctor and occupational medicine physician.  There was no surgery that could fix her back, but several months of physical therapy did help.  However, she was given permanent work restrictions which would not allow her to return to direct patient care in a hospital setting.  Just prior to trial, the case was settled for more than $200,000 which will help make up the difference in the lower wages that she will earn working at a clinic instead of a hospital.
